Sheriff’s deputies were busy over the weekend taking reports from tourists about vehicle burglaries.

Vehicles parked at the north end of the Seven Mile Bridge, the Long Key Bridge and the Channel Two Bridge were targeted for a total of four very similar crimes.

The victims, all tourists who stopped to take a walk or to fish from the bridges, left valuables inside their cars. Someone broke windows in the vehicles and took purses, cell phones, cash, credit cards and other electronic equipment.

A fifth vehicle burglary took place at the boat ramp at the 40 mile marker of the highway. In that crime, someone “punched” the lock on a truck’s door to gain entry.

Anyone with information about these crimes should contact the Sheriff’s Office. Callers may also contact Crime Stoppers of the Florida Keys. Tipsters can remain anonymous and, if a tip leads to an arrest in the case, the caller would be eligible for a cash reward. The Crime Stoppers hot line number is 1-800-346-TIPS. Tips may also be submitted on line at www.tipsubmit.com or via a text message to 274637 using the keyword TIP136.
