A 28 year old Ramrod Key man was arrested Tuesday after a fight with his brother and father.
According to his family, Andrew Phillips attacked his brother at 6:30 a.m. as he slept in his bed. Phillips later said he thought had been drinking and taking medication and he was “80% sure” his brother or his father had taken his phone, wallet and car keys.
The brother fought back and managed to detain Phillips with the help of his father. When deputies arrived, they found Phillips tied up, lying on the floor. The father was bleeding profusely from what looked like a severe bite mark on his arm.
Phillips was taken into custody. On the way to jail, in the back of Deputy Sean Moran’s patrol car, Phillips became violent, yelling and kicking the windows. The deputy told him to stop or pepper spray would be used to subdue him. Phillips continued his actions, so he was sprayed.
The deputy, with the help of Deputy Kim Trullender, stopped several times to help Phillips rinse himself off. At one point, Phillips demanded an ambulance, so one was called. The deputies allowed him to wait outside the patrol car so he could be in the fresh air. As they waited for the ambulance, Phillips again became violent, hitting and kicking at the deputies.
Paramedics cleared Phillips and he was transported to jail. He was charged with battery, aggravated battery on a person over the age of 65, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
