Alcohol compliance checks, Middle and Upper Keys

On Thursday, the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit conducted alcohol compliance operations in the Middle and Upper Keys. The purpose was to check businesses that sell alcohol to see if they are in compliance with the laws regarding sales of alcohol to minors.

In the Middle Keys, 15 businesses were checked and all businesses were in compliance with the law.

In the Upper Keys, nine businesses were checked and five of them served alcohol to a minor:

•  Crazy Billy’s Convenience Store - 74052 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.    Attendant: Matthew R. Greenwald, 31 years of age.  Notice to appear issued (NTA).
•  Dion’s Quik Mart - 81644 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.   Attendant: Rashads A. Richards, 22 years of age.  Notice to appear issued (NTA).
• Two Martinis Fine Wine Liquor Store - 81655 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.  Attendant: Hat Sidor, 53 years of age.  Notice to appear issued (NTA).
•  Tiny’s Bait & Gas Station - 82788 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.   Attendant: Susan B. McKee, 62 years of age.  Notice to appear issued (NTA).
•  Marlin Food Store - 88601 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.    Attendant: Linda Kelly, 66 years of age.  Notice to appear issued (NTA).

The Sale Clerk violations are:

Up to 60 days in jail, a $500.00 fine, $235.00 in court cost, $75.00 in cost of prosecution, and $40.00 in cost of investigation.

The Licensee Violations are:

1st-Offense $1000 fine and 7 day suspension.
2nd-Offense $3000 fine and 30 day suspension.
3rd-Offense Revocation of license.


The remaining businesses checked, were in compliance with the law.  This operation was conducted in cooperation with the Monroe County Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Community.
