Sheriff announces promotions

Lt. Donald Catala with Sheriff Rick Ramsay
Sheriff Rick Ramsay announced several promotions today in the bureaus of law enforcement and corrections.

Donald Catala, formerly detective sergeant of the Lower Keys Criminal Investigative Unit was promoted to lieutenant, and will be taking the position of station commander in the Lower Keys. He is replacing the current station commander, Captain (formerly Lieutenant) Donnie Elomina, who is retiring.

Yunier Galvez, formerly a detective in the Upper Keys, was promoted to road patrol sergeant in that same patrol area.

Nick Whiteman, formerly a road patrol deputy in Marathon, was promoted to road patrol sergeant in that same patrol area.

Ashley Sheriff, formerly a detention deputy at the Stock Island Detention Center, was promoted to sergeant and will be working at the Marathon Detention Center in that capacity.

Mark Jones, formerly a detective with the Monroe High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area unit (HIDTA) was promoted to detective sergeant and will be working in that capacity in the same unit.

“I am extremely proud of these Sheriff’s Office members who have worked hard to get where they are today,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “I look forward to working with them in their new positions and fully expect them to continue to perform in an exemplary manner, serving the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of our county.”
