A search warrant served in Marathon early today resulted in the arrest of one man on drug and weapons charges.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit assisted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and Sheriff’s road patrol served the warrant just before 6 a.m. at 240 Sombrero Road, Apartment 11H. When they entered the residence, they found a man holding a bedroom door closed, refusing to allow them to enter. They forced the door open, finding 33 year old Davaus McCown behind the door. He had something in his hand, which he dropped to the floor. He was escorted to the floor and detained. Detectives found a black Ruger .380 handgun underneath him; also located was a holster and a loaded magazine for the weapon. It appears he may have been attempting to place the magazine into the weapon just before he was detained.
Powdered and crack cocaine were both found in the residence along with drug paraphernalia and a significant amount of cash.
McCown was arrested. He was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and with neglect of a child because there were two children in the apartment at the time the search warrant was served.
