Two men  from Key Largo were arrested today, charged with dumping a large amount of debris beside the highway on Grassy Key.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone dumping debris beside the highway at the 58 mile marker. When Deputies Jose Hernandez and Jamie Buxton arrived, they found a truck and trailer beside the road. The trailer was empty, but was stuck in the sand immediately adjacent to a large pile of tree limbs, leaves and stumps that appeared to be freshly cut.

In the truck were two men. They were identified as 54 year old Brian Walker and 47 year old Erin Harbour of Key Largo. When the deputies spoke to them, they both denied dumping the debris. When Deputy Hernandez asked Walker to explain why his truck and trailer were alongside the road, stuck in the sand, Walker told several different stories about where he was going and what he was doing. At one point, he told Deputy Buxton he would help clean up the debris for a fee.

There were pieces of debris still in the trailer that matched the pile dumped alongside the highway. There were tire tracks from the trailer leading underneath the pile of debris. The pile of dumped debris measured 40 feet long by 12 feet wide by eight feet high and exceeded the felony amount of 500 pounds. Walker and Harbour were both placed under arrest for felony illegal dumping and they were booked into jail.
