Middle Keys Sgt. James Hager's patrol squad conducted an enforcement effort on vehicles speeding through the 35 mile per hour zone at the south end of Marathon. Over the course of two night shifts, they stopped 14 vehicles for speeding; they wrote four citations to large semi-trucks, seven citations to vehicles and issued eight warnings. They arrested one person for driving with license suspended and issued two notices to appear in court for minor narcotics violations.
While conducting the speed enforcement, they also stopped three bicyclists for riding without lights at night. In the picture, Deputy Edward Swogger stops a vehicle for speeding in front of two traffic fatality signs.
