Multiple events in the Upper and Lower Keys this weekend will cause extremely heavy traffic and those planning to travel on highway U.S. One should give themselves plenty of extra time to get where they are going. Key West Police and Sheriff’s deputies have been hired by event coordinators to help facilitate traffic, but the number and size of these events will definitely impact traffic. The scheduled events include:

The Key West Half Marathon and 5K in the city of Key West, which will take place on Sunday between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. The route takes participants from the starting point at Caroline and Grinnell Streets down Duval Street and then around to South Roosevelt Boulevard. Participants turn around at the triangle intersection at the entrance to Key West, return down South Roosevelt Boulevard, down Whitehead Street and back to the Waterfront Brewery at 201 William Street.

The Annual Big Pine Nautical Expo takes place both Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce on Big Pine Key between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Parking will be across the highway and deputies will be on hand to cross pedestrians in groups in an effort to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible.

The Big Pine Flea Market will also be taking place on Saturday during the day, further complicating traffic flow on the island.

Art Under the Oaks at San Pedro Church, 89.5 mm in Islamorada will take place Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Islamorada Boat Show will take place Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Island Christian School in Islamorada at the 83.9 mm. Times will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Islamorada Baygrass Bluegrass Festival will take place between Friday and Sunday with the main event taking place at Founders Park in Islamorada  Sunday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Havana Nights will take place at Playa Largo, 97mm in Key Largo
Saturday night from 7 p.m. until midnight. We are expecting heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic near the area during the event.
