Sheriff Rick Ramsay led the way along with Col. Lou Caputo, Lower Keys Capt. Donnie Catala and Lower Keys Lt. Dennis Coleman as well as Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kathy McKinney Tuesday morning in removing several eyesores that had been on shoulder of U.S. 1 since Hurricane Irma.
Col. Lou Caputo told Sheriff Ramsay recently he had grown tired of driving past several derelict trailers left over from the storm and went about remedying the problem. The trailers had been tagged for removal for some time and were on public property. Col. Caputo contacted Waste Management and they agreed to donate their time and equipment in helping remove the trailers. They also waved the dump fees. Key Lago-based Caputo Electric Inc. also donated time and resources.
