A 27-year-old Key Largo man wanted for fleeing from deputies last month was arrested Thursday night after he was stopped for erratic driving.
Ilias Agelis was charged with hit and run, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
Upper Keys Deputy Ignacio Molina stopped Agelis near Mile Marker 100 in a 2012 Honda CRV. The sport utility vehicle was swerving and traveling at a high rate of speed. The Honda almost hit a vehicle that was attempting to park. He was arrested due to a warrant for fleeing an eluding and leaving the scene of a crash stemming from an April 22 incident.
In that incident, Agelis failed to stop for deputies after he was speeding near the same stretch of U.S. 1. A chase ensued and ultimately crashed a black Mazda truck into some trees near Ocean Bay Drive and East Drive. Agelis jumped from the truck and fled the scene on foot. He left identification in the truck. Deputies learned that he had three previous DUIs and that his license had been revoked in January. He has had multiple driving without a valid license convictions.
Agelis was booked into jail Thursday night.
