The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe County School District conducted a security assessment at Coral Shores High School, 89901 Old Highway, Tavernier, Tuesday.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Director of School Safety Patty Thompson (at right in white polo shirt) and Sheriff’s Office command staff that included Capt. Don Fanelli, Capt. Lee Ann Holroyd and Capt. Corey Bryan, as well as Lt. Al Ramirez and School Resource Officer Jose Costoya met with Coral Shores High School officials and other Monroe County School District officials Tuesday to assess the school’s safety aspects as mandated by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.
The new law requires local law enforcement and school districts to evaluate and improve safety and security in Florida schools.
Students, parents, faculty and residents will see an increased law enforcement presence at all public schools in the near future and should not be alarmed.
Authorities are conducting these assessments in accordance with the new law.
Similar assessments will be conducted at each school in the district. Sugarloaf School was the first to be assessed last month.
