A 33-year-old Miami man was cited for possessing illegal yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper and black grouper on Saturday.
Boyuan Guan was cited for possession of each undersized fish.
Deputy Matthew Cory was on patrol at 7:20 a.m. on The Channel 5 Bridge when he saw a man spot him, reach into a cooler and throw a fish over the railing. Deputy Cory yelled for the man to stop and he did. He was briefly detained. The man, identified as Guan, said he threw the yellowtail over the rail because it was likely undersized. Deputy Cory found a 10-inch, black grouper (the legal size is 24 inches), a 9-inch mangrove snapper (the legal size is 10-inches) and a 10-inch yellowtail snapper (the legal size is 12 inches), in the cooler.
The undersized fish were returned to the water deceased.
