A 32-year-old Summerland Key man was arrested Wednesday night after he was found to be in possession of a trafficking amount of cocaine.
James Raymond Wells was charged with trafficking in cocaine.
Deputy Anthony Lopez was on U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 39 at 11:10 p.m. when he saw a Chevrolet pickup truck following a car too closely. Deputy Lopez also noticed the required light over the license plate was not operating properly. Deputy Lopez stopped the vehicle. There were three passengers in the vehicle as well as the driver who was identified as Wells.
The truck was searched. A plastic bag containing a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine was located under the driver’s seat. It weighed approximately 60 grams.
Wells was taken to jail.
The three passengers were not charged.
