A 56-year-old Putnam County, Georgia man was detained by a Sheriff’s Office deputy early Saturday morning at Mile Marker 27.5.
Jeff Cook was convicted in Georgia in October of selling sporting event tickets without a license after he reportedly sold tickets and failed to produce them to buyers.
Putnam County law enforcement authorities released a nationwide warrant for Cook after he did not show up Friday for his sentencing in court. Authorities in Georgia subsequently charged Cook with escape as well.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ian Douthirt spotted Cook’s vehicle about 6 a.m., stopped him and took him to jail where he remains under no bail.
Cook will be returned to Georgia where he will be sentenced.
