Two tourists — one driving a Ferrari and the other driving a Lamborghini — were arrested on Nov. 22 for racing through Marathon at speeds greater than 100 mph.

Xu Mengjie, 22, of Flushing New York and Zhen Yin, 20, of Cambridge, Massachusetts were both charged with participating in an unlawful race and reckless driving.

Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy Shaun Lones was on patrol at 3:51 p.m. when he spotted a yellow Ferrari and a red Lamborghini traveling southbound at a high rate of speed near 65thStreet. Deputy Lones quickly followed with his lights and sirens activated. Deputy Lones obtained a radar speed of 106 mph as the suspect vehicles neared 55th Street. Deputy Lones saw the two vehicles weave in and out of traffic. Deputy Lones radioed other deputies and law enforcement for help in stopping the suspect vehicles.

Eventually, the suspect vehicles pulled into Florida Highway Patrol substation parking lot at 3380 Overseas Highway in Marathon.

Deputy Lones spoke to Yin and a FHP Trooper spoke to Mengjie.

Both of the exotic cars were rentals. They were towed from the scene.

Both Mengjie and Yin were taken to jail.
