A 57-year-old Summerland Key man was arrested Wednesday for the theft of scooter and vehicle batteries from Anchor Towing’s lot on Rockland Key where he was formerly employed.
John Peter Kenny faces more than 20 theft-related charges including multiple counts of property damage, larceny and burglary.
The case began in June when the Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the towing impound lot where a manager stated the property had been burglarized and several scooters and vehicles were stolen. The manager provided several hours video surveillance and stated they believed the suspect to be a former employee named John Peter Kenny. The manager identified the suspect seen in the video as Kenny.
The video showed Kenny with a cutting tool in his hands. He is seen removing batteries from the vehicles. He is also seen entering and exiting the property.
Warrants were issued for Kenny’s arrest.
Kenny was booked into jail Wednesday morning.
