A Marathon man was arrested Wednesday, charged with pawning items stolen during a business burglary in August.
The Tackle Box in Marathon was burglarized August 10th. Someone broke in and stole silver dollars and a men’s 14 karat gold wedding band with a diamond in it. Two days later, pawn shop records show that 38 year old Jose Ortiz went to Molly’s Pawn and More on Big Pine Key and pawned those same items.
When confronted with this information by Detective Nicholis Whiteman, Ortiz said he bought the items from someone on 39th Street for $150. He could not give the detective a name or description of the person he said he bought them from.
Ortiz was arrested. He was charged with trafficking in property he knew or should have known to be stolen. He was booked into jail.
