A Marathon man, arrested last week for pawning items stolen in a business burglary, faces more charges.

Detective Nicholis Whiteman charged 38 year old Jose Ortiz with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and with dealing in stolen property.

The charges stem from a burglary reported August 21st. Someone broke in to Island Auto Repair and stole a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

A week after the burglary, Detective Whiteman received information about the location of the gun. He spoke with a Marathon man who admitted to having a gun fitting the description of the stolen gun. He said Ortiz gave it to him as payment for money Ortiz owed him.

He turned the gun over to the detective, who confirmed it was, indeed, the stolen weapon.
