Detectives say a man who was found floating face down in a canal behind his home most likely drowned by accident.
A neighbor who lives on San Remo Drive in Islamorada called the Sheriff’s Office Saturday shortly after 5 p.m. He said he was on his dock with friends when he saw what looked like a body floating in the canal. When Deputy Ray Jodlowski arrived, he found the body of 69 year old William George in the canal. George lived in a house at 120 San Remo Drive. He was floating next to a boat in the canal. On the boat were numerous tools as if someone had been working on it.
Inside the house, deputies found food in the kitchen which looked like it had been taken out to be cooked later. Documents, a cell phone, a black bag and other items belonging to George were also found in the house.
There were no signs of foul play in evidence at the scene. The body was taken by the Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
