A number of deputies received Life Saving awards at our Employee awards ceremony, including:

Sgt. Amanda Coleman, Lt. Charlene Sprinkle-Huff and Sgt. Joel Slough all responded to a serious traffic accident involving a truck which collided with a bicyclist. The bicyclist was unresponsive with no pulse when they arrived. They performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived to take over care.

A passenger at the Key West Airport collapsed shortly after disembarking a plane. Sgt. David Smith performed CPR on the man until he could be transported to the hospital.

Deputies Aaron Coller (left) and Kendall Bailey (not pictured) responded to a man armed with a gun. He was suicidal, pointing the gun at his own head. At great risk to their own lives, they managed to disarm the man, saving his life. Further investigation revealed a second loaded gun and a detailed suicide note. Also pictured, on the right, is Deputy John Gabay who recommended the two deputies for the life saving award.
