A fire on a houseboat in Marathon killed two dogs and did considerable damage to the boat.
When Deputy William Daniels arrived just before 6 p.m. at 35 Sombrero Beach Boulevard firefighters had already extinguished the blaze. They were attempting CPR on one of two Great Danes that had been on board the houseboat during the fire. Neither dogs were able to be revived.
Neighbors initially saw the fire and attempted to extinguish it with fire extinguishers and hoses.
The owners of the houseboat said they’d been working on it all day making repairs and had just left shortly after 5 p.m. They said they were unaware of any issues on the boat which may have caused the fire.
