Sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives are investigating a body found offshore of the bayside of Big Coppitt Key today.
The body was first found by a fisherman who reported it to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission just after 1 p.m. FWC assisted with recovery of the unidentified and badly decomposed body of a man.
The Medical Examiner also responded and will be examining the body and performing an autopsy in the hopes of both identifying who he is and discovering how he died.
Detective Patricia Garcia is assigned to investigate the case.
