If you can return to work on Monday, we need you to be here to help open offices and get services up and running. We would appreciate anyone who can be at work to report first thing Monday.
For those of you who cannot return to work Monday due to damaged homes, small children to care for or for other reasons, you need to contact your direct supervisor and explain the circumstances of your hardship. Your supervisor should then call Administrative Bureau Chief Mike Rice at 305-797-0362. Chief Rice must give his approval for a work waiver. Employees who qualify will be given up to one more week of time off, depending on the circumstances of their hardship.
Individual employees should not call Chief Rice directly! You must go through your supervisor!
You must be approved up this chain of command in order to take extra time off.
Best wishes to you all. We are truly sorry for those whose homes were damaged or destroyed. Rest assured your Sheriff's Office family is here for you and will help in any way possible.
Be careful as you return and make sure you bring sufficient supplies. Services in the Keys are slowly returning to normal, but water from the tap, if it is available at all, is not safe to drink. Grocery stores are starting to open, but lines are long. There is fuel now, but many people are returning over the next few days and things might be rough for a while.
