Fatal hit and run on Ramrod Key

A local woman was killed in a hit and run crash at the 26.5 mile marker of Highway U.S. One in the early morning hours today.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators are asking the public for any information which might help identify the vehicle and driver who fled from the scene of the crash.

The victim, 43 year old Nehama Rena Mondzioch, worked just a short distance from the scene of the crash at Boondock’s Restaurant on Ramrod Key. She clocked out of work at 11:29 p.m. The victim was found by the side of the road by a passing Sheriff’s Office road patrol sergeant at 12:30 a.m.

According to FHP Corporal David Riso, the lead investigator, the victim was riding her bicycle southbound in the northbound bike lane of the highway. A vehicle headed northbound struck her, knocking her from her bicycle. The victim died at the scene. The driver who hit her fled the scene and did not report the crash.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark gray in color GMC Sierra 2500, unknown year. The vehicle will have extensive front end damage on the right hand side, including a possible broken headlight.
