A 30-year-old Homestead man with a criminal record was arrested late Tuesday night for possessing a handgun and bullets.
Mario Jose Beoto was charged with multiple counts of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified of a disturbance at 11 p.m. at a gas station on the 99000 block of the Overseas Highway. A man and woman were reportedly screaming at each other in the parking lot. Both left in a silver car, heading north on U.S. 1. Deputy Ignacio Molina stopped the car at Mile Marker 99. The man was identified as Beoto. The woman told Deputy Molina he could search the car. The woman told Deputy Molina there might be a gun in the car. Beoto told Deputy Jose Hernandez that the gun was in a green bag. A .380 semiautomatic pistol as well as a magazine with six bullets were found.
Beoto was taken to jail.
