A 39-year-old Miami man was arrested in the Upper Keys Tuesday night after being stopped in a car reported stolen out of Key West.
Frank James Jones was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license/third or subsequent offense.
Deputy Joel Torres received a be-on-the-lookout alert at 8:10 p.m. for a black, Honda CRV reported stolen out of Key West last seen traveling north on U.S. 1. Deputy Torres saw the vehicle at 8:30 p.m. at Mile Marker 76. He got behind the vehicle and called for backup. The Honda turned into Amara Cay Resort at Mile Marker 80. Deputy Torres and newly arriving Sgt. Patty O’Keefe conducted a traffic stop. Jones was taken into custody. There no other people in the vehicle.
Jones claimed he was borrowing the vehicle from another person in exchange for drugs.
Jones was taken to jail.
