Detective David Cruz, the law enforcement officer of the quarter for the fourth quarter of 2012, was also recognized by First State Bank. Cruz solved a case involving a dog which was found dead in the water inside a cage. The high profile case attracted lots of attention, including a web site which raised money for a reward. First State Bank also offered a $500.00 reward for tips leading to the resolution of the case. There were no tips to reward - Detective Cruz solved it by hard work and extensive follow-up, so all the reward money will be donated to the Florida Keys Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
