Tavernier – A Tavernier man was arrested Saturday afternoon for falsely reporting that his girlfriend had been kidnapped.
35 year old Mathew Corp called Sheriff’s dispatchers just after 2 p.m. He reported his wife had been kidnapped by two men who were heading north from the 92 mile marker driving a U-Haul truck. A notice to be on the lookout for the vehicle was issued over police radios and Deputy E.B. Askins responded to Burton drive to meet with Corp.
When he arrived at Corp’s address, he found a vehicle parked out front that was running with the doors open. Two women exited Corp’s apartment. One identified herself as Corp’s “now ex-girlfriend”. She said she was moving out of the apartment.
Corp then exited the apartment. He was obviously intoxicated and began yelling at Deputy Askins and at the two women. He told Deputy Askins he’d called in the false kidnapping report to keep his girlfriend from leaving his apartment.
Corp was arrested. He fought with Deputy Askins as he was being arrested. He was charged with misuse of 911 and resisting arrest and he was booked into jail.
