Key Largo – A Key Largo man is in jail, charged with attacking both his girlfriend and a neighbor in the same day.

Just before 9 a.m. Saturday, Deputy Jaques Rozek was flagged down by a woman at the 99 mile marker who wanted to report her boyfriend,42 year old Larry Riley, had tried to strangle her. Deputy E.B. Askins also responded.

She said Riley, whom she lives with, attacked her at their residence earlier in the morning. She said he was holding a crow bar at the time, and threatened to hit her with it. She managed to escape and he chased after her car, throwing rocks at it.

She said she went to work and he called her there, threatening to bring the crow bar and a gun and kill the owner of the business and anyone else who got in the way. Another woman who works with the victim also heard the call and confirmed the threats made by Riley. The victim had red marks on her neck consistent with someone trying to strangle her.

As the deputies were investigating the case, Sheriff’s dispatchers notified them of a disturbance at Largo RV Park involving two men and a crow bar. The address of the disturbance was Riley’s. When they arrived, they spoke with witnesses who said Riley had attacked  a man with a crow bar. The witnesses said they intervened and took the crow bar away from Riley, but the two men still fought with each other.

Riley was found in his residence and was taken into custody. The victim refused medical treatment and said he did not know why Riley attacked him, but that he had been acting strangely.

Riley was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, battery and domestic battery. He was booked into jail.
