Explorers competition fun and successful
The indoor range in Ft. Meyers was an impressive state of the-art facility. Explorer Lieutenant Thomas Mirabella took 3rd place in the Sharpshooter division in 9mm with a score of 416 out of a possible 500. This is particularly impressive because this was his first time shooting the Glock 17.
The training Lee County offered included the usual traffic stops, building clearing and domestic violence response. Our explorers performed exceptionally well in all these areas.
Sheriff’s Explorers traveled to Lee County this month to compete against other Explorer posts from around the state. New School Resource Deputies Dave Stark and Nancy Torrijos went along as advisors for the first time, along with veteran SRO Deputy Will Schlegelmilch.
Lee County also offered some different physical training. Explorers got into the water to test their endurance, treading water for 10 minutes and swimming 50 yards while holding a 10 pound brick over their head. They also received training in how to rescue someone safely from the water.
